Workshop Overviews

Once you have mastered the skill of making homemade delicious preserves you will feel a sense of accomplishment as you begin to stock your pantry or larder.  Imagine sharing your delicious homemade produce; jams to spread on hot buttered toast or to sandwich cakes together, chutneys to accompany summer salads or Christmas buffets, jellies to glaze roasts or boost gravies; marmalades to spread on thick buttered toast or to add zing to your cooking. Whatever you choose to use your preserves for, you can be sure of one thing: you will feel a sense of pride each time you either gift them or use them in your food preparations.

FULL DAY/Cost £75.00 pp

In the workshop you will learn how to make two different preserves; a jam and a chutney using a variety of  seasonal fruits and vegetables or two marmalades using two different methods. (Contact me to find out which fruit and vegetables are available).

Guided by myself  through instruction and demonstration you will prepare and process the fruits and vegetables, from those available, into delicious preserves that you will take home with you at the end of the day.

The day will begin with a tasting session of a variety of preserves that you will learn to make followed by a brief overview of how preserving works, the equipment needed and basic jam and chutney (or marmalade) making methods.

You will then cook at your own work station, by induction hob or gas hob in a friendly, informal atmosphere. ( Don’t worry Sian will be on hand to guide and demonstrate throughout.)

Throughout the day everything you need to prepare and make your preserves will be supplied, including a restorative cup of tea or coffee.

Lunch will provide another opportunity to sample homemade preserves such as pickles and chutneys as accompaniments to a delicious homemade light lunch.

If you would like to try any other preserving methods please contact me to see if it is possible. Other preserves to be considered are pickles, fermented vegetables, fruit cheeses, mincemeats, infused fruit gins or vodkas.
